Boxes of basics teen board
What is the Teen Board?
The Boxes of Basics Teen Board brings together passionate high school students to support our mission to combat clothing insecurity by providing complete seasonal wardrobes to local children in need. Guided by the idea of “Teens Helping Teens,” members work alongside peers, mentors, and community leaders to lead service projects, support outreach efforts, and make a direct impact in their community. Through this experience, students gain hands-on leadership skills while also gaining exposure to nonprofit operations, community leadership, and professional mentorship.
The Teen Board plays an active role in:
- Supporting the Boxes of Basics mission to provide clothing to children in need across our community
- Increasing peer engagement in service and volunteerism
- Expanding outreach across local schools
- Building sustainable programs for future Teen Board members
Program Benefits
Teen Board members will:
- Gain firsthand insight into running a nonprofit organization
- Develop leadership, project management, organizational, and communication skills
- Make a meaningful impact in the lives of local children
- Collaborate with like-minded peers from across the community
- Gain exposure to community and business leaders through mentorship and collaboration
- Strengthen their commitment to service and giving back
Teen Board Requirements
Eligibility
- Open to rising high school students (freshmen through seniors) in Prince William County, the City of Manassas, the City of Manassas Park, Fauquier County, or approved homeschool/virtual programs in these areas
Application Process
- Complete an application and written response
- Participate in an interview
- Demonstrate a genuine passion for service and commitment to the mission (no GPA requirement)
Program Expectations
Attendance
- Attend twice-monthly meetings (virtual and in-person)
- Miss no more than two meetings per semester
- Maintain consistent participation to remain in good standing
Leadership & Volunteer Commitment
- Complete regular warehouse volunteer hours in addition to twice-monthly meetings
- Actively participate in Teen Board initiatives and outreach efforts (community events, parades, clothing drives, and service projects)
- Take initiative, demonstrate leadership, and follow through on commitments
Member Expectations
- Represent Boxes of Basics with professionalism and respect
- Be inclusive, reliable, and team-oriented
- Take initiative and follow through on commitments
- Maintain a positive attitude while serving others
